Madonna has topped the first 'Cash Queens of Music' list, which is compiled by Forbes.com, after earning $72 million between June 2006 and June 2007.
Madonna's personal fortune was boosted by her successful 'Confessions Tour', which generated a staggering $260 million worldwide and she also benefited financially from working with the high street fashion chain H+M, general record sales and her deal with the U.S. broadcaster NBC for the rights to air her concert from London's Wembley Arena.
Barbra Streisand finished second with $60 million and remains one of the most successful female entertainers in the world and has sold more than 145 million albums worldwide.
Celine Dion came third with $45 million and Shakira and Beyoncé rounded out the top five with $38 million and $27 million respectively.
The top 20 women on the list earned a combined fortune of $420 million and the list was compiled by examining the artist's concert grosses, merchandising revenue, album sales and additional revenue from clothing lines, fragrance deals and endorsements.

It would appear that, Scarlett Johansson is set to play Princess Diana in a film about her life.
The 'Lost in Translation' star is the hot favorite to take the lead role in 'The Island' which is director Michael Bay's intended film about the late princess' life.
A film insider said, "The buzzwords about the film are tasteful and non-sensational. Michael thinks Scarlett would be the perfect choice to play Diana as she is a very versatile actress".
In the meantime, Scarlett is getting ready to release her debut album, 'Anywhere I Lay My Head'. Only one of the tracks is an original composition, written by Tom Waits, while the other 10 are Scarlett's interpretations of some of Tom's most famous songs. The 23 year old actress will release the 11 track LP through 'Atco Records' on May 20.
It took five weeks to record the album last spring at Louisiana's Dockside Studios and Scarlett was already no stranger to the music industry.
She appeared in the music video for Justin Timberlake's single 'What Goes Around, Comes Around' in 2006, and she sang backing vocals for the 'Jesus and Mary Chain' at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2007.
The catwalk supermodels, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss have posed together for the February 2008 cover of Vogue Magazine Paris and the edition will also include many other pictures from the photo shoot.
In other related news, Naomi Campbell had been signed up to be in Spike Lee's latest film 'Miracle At St. Anna' which is World War II drama but she had to be replaced due to "scheduling conflicts".
Naomi has been replaced by Kerry Washington.

The relationship between Keira Knightley and Rupert Friend is reportedly on the rocks because she is refusing to wear an antique ring that he bought for her.
Rupert, who is the star of 'Pride and Prejudice' gave the antique white-gold ring to Keira as a "symbol of their love" and is hurt by Keira's decision to wear an expensive Chanel one instead.
A source close to the pair said, "Rupert bought Keira this antique ring at considerable expense and while it's not an engagement ring, he intended it to symbolize their love for one another. But, as the face of Chanel, Keira has obviously been inundated with very expensive jewelry from its fine jewelry collection and has chosen to regularly wear one of its rings instead of the one bought for her by Rupert. As a result, the word is that he's made his feelings made known to Keira".
It is rumored that Rupert and Keira have been dating since December 2005 and it is now said that they are attempting to get their relationship back on track following the incident.
The source told Britain's Daily Express newspaper, "It seems these could be testing times for Keira and Rupert. They are both young actors with their careers still very much ahead of them so relationships are never going to be straightforward. Hopefully they will work things out".

Victoria Beckham has revealed that she and the rest of the band which includes Emma Bunton, Mel C and Geri Halliwell always go to Scary Spice Mel with their bedroom problems.

According to recent reports Paris Hilton's grandfather has decided to give 97 per cent of his multi-billion dollar fortune to charity.
Barron Hilton, whose wealth is estimated at 2.3 billion dollars, is reportedly more than a little annoyed with Paris's lifestyle and after many warnings he finally announced that he would donate most of his wealth to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation which is named after his father who founded the Hilton hotel chain in 1919.
It's unlikely however that Paris will be in dire straights financially because she used and is still using her grandfather's name to kick-start her own business ventures that are said to be very profitable.
Paris's present projects are, The Simple Life TV show, her perfume line, mobile phone games and personal appearances.
